Tropical Soybean in Development Workshop: Dr. Jean-Marcel Ribaut, Generation Challenge Program: Capacity Building: Gain or Drain?

Jean-Marcel Ribaut directs the Generation Challenge Program (GCP) , created by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) in 2003 and focused on using genetic diversity and advanced plant science to improve crops by adding value to breeding for drought-prone and harsh environments.  Jean-Marcel disucsses the issue of brain drain in educating Africa's plant breeders, questioning whether capacity building is a gain or drain.  More information on the GCP program and specifically their Integrated Breeding Platform (IBP), a web-based one-stop shop for information, analytical tools and related services to design and carry out integrated breeding projects, can be found here.

Jean-Marcel Ribaut discusses issues of higher education in Africa, questioning whether capacity building is a "gain" or "drain" for Africa at the Soybean Innovation Lab's Tropical Soybean for Development Workshop held on October 28, 2014 in Washington, D.C.  Find copies of the workshop presentations on the Soybean Innovation Lab's website here!
